Dyscalculia is demonstrated through the following features in relation to maths; difficulties understanding and following instructions, poor counting and calculating skills, poor knowledge of number facts, inability to apply number facts to problem solving or to master skills needed for operations, poor skills at operating with numbers or symbols and the inability to use calculations for the four rules.
Through the early identification and intervention with children experiencing problems with mental calculations potential long-term difficulties can be managed leading to future success in maths further on in the student’s school career.
