Help! My Child Hates Writing

  • You can hire a tutor to work with them to develop their handwriting skills. Many tutors will also help with fine and gross motor skill development which will help enhance writing development.
  • Use different methods of recording (see this article).
  • Use a reward system.
  • Ensure that your child can read at an age appropriate level and enjoys reading. Readers become writers.
  • Try notebooking or lapbooking. Not sure what these are? Don’t worry more information will follow.

Notebooking makes writing more creative and fun

We have all been there at some point. A child who can’t or won’t write is a common problem for parents and teachers. It doesn’t necessarily indicate a specific problem (although it might) as it might just be a phase. Some students find the physical act of writing painful. Many have poor letter formation skills. Others just find writing ‘boring’!

There are many ways to help such students.
