Dyscalculia is demonstrated through the following features in relation to maths; difficulties understanding and following instructions, poor counting and calculating skills, poor knowledge of number facts, inability to apply number facts to problem solving or to master skills needed for operations, poor skills at operating with numbers or symbols and the inability to use calculations for the four rules.
Through the early identification and intervention with children experiencing problems with mental calculations potential long-term difficulties can be managed leading to future success in maths further on in the student’s school career.
It is essential for teachers to be aware of the potential barriers to learning experienced by Dyscalculia sufferers and to present work to these pupils in different ways that can minimise these effects. This should allow such pupils to achieve success.
Superb blog post, I have book marked this internet site so ideally I’ll see much more on this subject in the foreseeable future!
There will be more posts relating to SEN in the future as well as resources suitable for students with SEN. I hope you’ll visit often. If there’s anything you’d like to see specifically covered here please let me know.
Great work keep it coming
Can you provide more information on this? cheers
